Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need an Appointment?

We work on an appointment only basis to ensure you have exclusive use of your own dressing room and one to one attention with a member of our attentive Burr Bridal consultants, but we do allow brides to drop in and browse if we are free we would be happy to assist but if we are busy we would advise to book an appointment and return to get the ultimate experience. Please be aware that weekend appointments are our busiest days and come sometimes result in there being a lot of bodies in the shop and due to the positioning of the bridal areas there might be the occasional Bride also browsing.

Is There a fee for appointments?

We do require debit/credit card details to book any weekend appointments. We do not charge for the appointments but we charge if the appointment is missed or if the appointment is not cancelled 3 days prior to the appointment. We've unfortunatly had to impliment this due to the high number of no shows without any cancellation, even though we always send texts/emails to confirm the booking 3 days prior the booked and confirmed appointment, this impacts on us and also brides whom would have loved to have booked with us but we were already (we thought) full!.  I am sure you understand and respect our decision. Sunday Exclusive Appointments are the only charged appointment.

How log does an appointment last?

Weekday appointments can be up to 2 hours if time allows, Saturday appointments are 90 minutes and Sunday appointments are VIP Exclusive for exclusive use of the boutique, unlimited guests, bubbles, treats and a little something special for our bride to be, lots of time for you and guests to peruse our bridesmaid and mother of the bride area too. Appointments are charged at fifty pounds which is fully refundable on the purchase of a wedding gown on the day. Call for availability. Please arrive on time but no earlier than 5 minuets as we will still be with the previous appointment and do not have waiting room, if you are running late let us know.

Who should accompany me on my appointment?

Bring the person/s whose opinion you most value, who will reserve judgement until you have had your exclusive fitting with your Burr Bridal dedicated Consultant. We recommend this option as too many varying opinions can become confusing. We would advise not to have more than three people in attendance at one fitting as space is limited, if you do bring more than 3 people please be aware that we have limited seating and limited space in the Bridal changing areas, larger parties would be wise to avoid Saturdays.

Do you allow children in the shop?

Of course we are more than happy for babies to visit but unfortunately we do not have any space for buggies inside the shop. They can be left outside but we do not advise this, the shop is unfortunately not too child friendly as there is an open staircase leading to the first floor. We understand that sometimes you have no option but to bring little ones with you but it is much less distracting if the bride is child free from our experience. We would therefore ask for adults accompanying children to keep them seated with them at all times.

Availability to store my Wedding Dress?

Burr Bridal is happy to provide safe storage of your wedding dress which can be taken advantage of up to a few days preceding your wedding day. We do charge a storage fee for this service which includes insurance while your dress is on the premises. Your dress will be presented to you pre-steamed and in pristine condition upon collection and handed to you in one of our  Burr Bridal Gown dress bags if you have purchased one.

What is the delivery time on bridal/bridesmaids dresses?

Most of our dresses take up to 4 months to arrive, however some of our designers offer a rush service to have a dress made even faster, but a rush fee will apply. We can also defer your dress to be made at a later date to ensure your order is placed but not delivered until required. Depending on the dress you decide on we can enquire with the designer to see if they have the dress in the correct size in stock.
Bridesmaids dresses are usually delivered within 12- 14 weeks depending on the designer, again rush options for much faster deliveries are an option at an additional cost. Please be aware to allow time not only for the delivery of your dresses but time for any alterations you may require.

What if I need alterations to my dress?

It would be wonderful if every bride fitted her dress perfectly but this is rarely the case, most brides will need some alteration, or maybe just a bustle for the train to be lifted to enable her to dance the night away. Whatever your dress alteration requirements are, Burr Bridal offer a bespoke alteration service with expert seamstresses who will see you at the shop or alternatively can be booked directly. The seamstresses are independent of Burr Bridal so after your first fitting with them they will organise all future fittings in their diaries and arrange final fits to ensure your dress fits you perfectly. We have a menu of approximate costs in store and only alter dresses bought through Burr Bridal.

I am getting married abroad can you pack my dress?

We are more than happy to pack your dress, just drop off the case to us and we will pack the dress and supply tissue paper. We cannot guarantee a crease free dress but it will be packed expertly with lots of care and we are often told the dresses arrive safe and sound with little creasing. We even tie a blue ribbon to the handle to make it stand out at the airport.

I would like to take pictures of dresses I try on is that allowed?

This is a tricky one as some of our designers have a strict code of conduct where they would prefer it if we do not allow photography of their designs, so we are obliged to comply with their wishes. We risk losing our Designers if we permit photography of their dresses as they have strong copyright laws regarding their designs. However if you purchase a dress which shows commitment to the designer we encourage you to photograph your dress, we do allow facetime to family whom may not be able to attend the appointment.   We hope you understand our decision.  All our dresses are featured on our website for future reference.    We understand some shops do allow photography which is entirely their choice, we know that from experience the photography of dresses that may not be the exact size/length, with not great lighting in the shop plus quite a lot of other factors the photos may not really benefit your choice, and the possibility of the photos being shared by guests is not ideal.

Do you do made to measure dresses?

Some of our designers do offer made to measure at an extra cost, we can also offer you longer and shorter lengths sometimes free but depending on the designer we can also offer on some designers different neckline styles, zip or lace up options, and many other bespoke details which we would advise on at your appointment.

I am getting married in less than 4 months is there time to order a dress?

Pressure is on but keep calm and put the kettle on....we have managed to get dresses in as little as one week before and have several options for you. One is to buy straight from our stock in the shop, we can also offer rush cuts on some dresses which means your dress can be made super quick but at an extra cost. A second option is to see if our designers have any stock in their warehouses that we can have. Both these options require a weekday appointment as we can then telephone and talk to our sales teams to take the best step forward with arranging your dress.

What further discounts would Burr Bridal offer me if I were their bride?

As we are fully aware of the immense costs of weddings we try to help our brides and reward their commitment for choosing us to purchase their wedding gown. We are happy to give 10% discount to our brides when choosing both their bridesmaids gowns and their men's formal hire wear. We also run designer promotions in store on many other services including wedding cakes and car hire.

I need to order suits for my wedding what's the procedure?

Ideally look on our website to learn more or book an appointment to visit the 'Stag Room' in store where we will be on hand to advise and discuss the suit options. From that point we will start you a file with all your groomsmen's details and the styles and colours of your suit choices, then just tell your guys to book an appointment to be measured. Measurements take no longer than 15 minutes to do. We advise that all your groomsmen have fitting appointment no longer than 8 weeks prior to the wedding as to secure the suit hire. Deposits will be required before any measuring takes place; your suits will arrive up to 4 days before your actual wedding date so no worries if any changes are needed and then the final balance will be due. We offer a package price deal on all suits, plus 10% discount if the bride has purchased their wedding gown with us. For returning suits to the shop after the wedding, we must have the suits returned no later than 11am Tuesday morning.
